Spontaneous neutrocytic hepatic hydrothorax without ascites.

چکیده
Pleural effusion occurs infrequently in patients with cirrhosis of the liver, almost always in the presence of clinically obvious ascites. Although the mechanism of fluid transfer into the thorax is controversial, the main factor seems to be the presence of defects in the membranous parts of the diaphragm. This is usually on the right side. Subsequent infection of the pleural fluid is believed to be due to either migration of infected ascitic fluid or by haematogenous spread. The present case report describes a case where a right-sided hepatic hydrothorax without ascites is complicated by bacterial infection. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report in the literature.

Predictors of fifty days in-hospital mortality in patients with culture negative neutrocytic ascites
BACKGROUND Culture negative neutrocytic ascites is a variant of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. But there are conflicting reports regarding the mortality associated with culture negativeneutrocytic ascites. Therefore we aim to determine the predictors of mortality associated with culture negativeneutrocytic ascites in a larger sample population. METHODS We analysed 170 patients consecutive...
متن کاملHepatic Hydrothorax without Any Evidence of Ascites
Hepatic hydrothorax usually presents in association with ascites, but there are rare cases when it does not. This case helps to support the differential of hepatic hydrothorax in patients who have a history of liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and recurrent pleural effusions without ascites. We hope to support the conclusion that a patient with recurrent pleural effusions, without ascites, ...
متن کاملSpontaneous bacterial peritonitis in asymptomatic outpatients with cirrhotic ascites.
The prevalence and natural history of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in asymptomatic patients with ascites secondary to cirrhosis is unknown. From a prospectively recorded database, we reviewed the clinical and laboratory features of all outpatients with cirrhotic ascites undergoing paracentesis between July 1994 and December 2000. The prevalence of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in the p...
متن کاملChemical pleurodesis for hepatic hydrothorax.
BACKGROUND Ascites can occur after hepatic diseases causing dyspnea, coughing and pain. When associated with pleural effusion it can also increase respiratory distress. In a bibliographic survey hydrothorax has been observed in up to 20% of the patients and the kind of treatment is still being discussed. OBJECTIVE This case report shows the occurrence of a large volume of ascites and pleural ...
متن کاملHepatic hydrothorax without ascites as the first sign of liver cirrhosis
A 60-year-old woman without a history of liver diseases, but with a history of regular alcohol consumption, presented with a right-sided transudative pleural effusion. Neither parenchymal lung lesion nor pleural thickening was seen on a chest computed tomography. On abdominal ultrasonography, the liver size and contour were normal, and ascites was not noted. Despite performing imaging and labor...
